Synopsis

After an ecstatic period of marital bliss, Sally Carey and Robert Mapes begin to drift apart, though the birth of a son brings them temporarily together again. Their estrangement widens, however, as Robert, Jr., becomes Sally's center of interest. Sally is flattered by Paul Gregg, and, despite her husband's warnings, continues her affair with Paul, leading to a bitter quarrel. Jennie, the governess, soon becomes a source of consolation for Robert, Jr., and she becomes friendly with Tom Barnes, a shrewd thief who visits the house as an electrician. Sally agrees to leave with Paul, but Barnes steals her jewels, then Jennie forces Barnes to surrender them. Realizing her folly, Sally decides to return to homelife and her husband and child.
