Synopsis

When Englishman Gilbert Brockhurst receives word that he has been proclaimed the Earl of Somerfield, he deserts his wife Mary and young son Bob, believing that as his social inferiors, they would embarrass him. Mary returns to her Arizona ranch, where she dies of grief, leaving Bob so resentful that he adopts the surname of McKeever, his mother's maiden name. Meanwhile, Gilbert remarries and has a second son, Stanley, whom he takes with him on a diplomatic mission to Chicago many years later. There Bob meets his father and half brother, who has grown into a weak and dissipated young man. Later Bob forces Stanley to work as a stablehand on his ranch, and through the hard work, Stanley becomes a better man. Deeply impressed with Bob, Gilbert offers him his title and estate, but Bob refuses, preferring to remain in Arizona with his sweetheart, Ruth Merritt.
