Synopsis

After a prologue showing Eve tempting Adam at the tree of knowledge, the action shifts to modern-day England. Young Nigel Stanyon falls victim to the wiles of a siren named Belle, but she deserts him for a wealthy admirer after he spends all of his money on her. Nigel is then found by his friend Mostyn Hollingsworth, who installs him as manager of his estate. There Nigel meets and falls in love with his neighbor, Monica. When Brian returns from abroad with his new bride Belle, Nigel is shocked, but remains silent. Upon discovering that her husband is on the verge of bankruptcy, Belle is about to elope with wealthy Loftus Roupelle when Nigel stops her. Enraged, Belle informs her husband that Nigel was her previous lover, a revelation which estranges the two friends. The damage done, Belle escapes with Roupelle. The next day, Brian realizes that he has wronged Nigel and works to restore both their fortunes so that his friend can marry Monica.
