Synopsis

Billy Winthrop and his wife, Ethel, who lead a meager existence on Billy's salary, suddenly learn that they will inherit the estate of Billy's grandfather, provided that Billy has "made good." Billy and Ethel rent a fashionable apartment for a few days to deceive Uncle Hiram, who visits them, with a show of luxury. They are unaware, however, that the woman who signed the lease is "Slim Pretty," alias Joe Carter, a notorious crook and female impersonator, who, with his partner, Chicago Dan, plans to rob the apartment. Billy impersonates the butler, and failing to impress his uncle, he more successfully impersonates a Miss Smith, with whom Uncle Hiram becomes infatuated. Complications ensue, and Billy mistakes Chicago Dan for the owner of the apartment; then the owner and the police arrive. ... Billy and Ethel threaten to reveal the uncle's flirtation, and he finally agrees to surrender the inheritance.
