Brief Synopsis

Soda jerk Harvey is the most popular man in Blakeville NY and deliriously happy through three years of poverty-stricken marriage to Nellie. After a musical comedy troupe comes through Nellie becomes and actress and tag-along Harvey becomes "What's his name. When Nellie falls for a millionaire and goes to Reno for a divorce, Harvey takes their child Phoebe home where her later illness brings her parents back together.

Synopsis

When handsome soda jerk Harvey marries Nellie Duluth, the banker's daughter, they are happy for a few years until Nellie decides that she wants to join the chorus of a show traveling through town. She takes Harvey and their daughter Phoebe with her to New York, but when she becomes a big star and attracts the attentions of millionaire Fairfax, she makes them move to the suburbs while she stays in the city. Nellie, Harvey and Fairfax's relationship comes to a crisis which culminates in Nellie's trip to Reno for a divorce. After several months, Harvey and Phoebe return to their home town on foot. Phoebe then becomes dangerously ill and Harvey contacts Nellie, who now no longer loves Fairfax, and decides to return to her husband and soon-to-be-recuperated daughter.
