Synopsis

David Knox Endicott, a strictly bred New Englander, demonstrates great songwriting ability while attending college. Consequently, when actress Dorothy Deal's musical-comedy production comes to town, David's friend Jonathan Hall persuades the composer to accompany her in the performance of his song "Holding Hands with Helen." At a college party, Dorothy lures the drunken David into her room, and the next morning, angered by his disgust towards her, she leaves him a note claiming that he has ruined her life. That same day, Dorothy marries the wealthy Arthur Haynes, while the guilt-stricken David vainly searches for her with the object of proposing marriage. David meets Arthur's daughter, singer Helen Haynes, who agrees to go on tour with the songwriter when her father loses his fortune. Dorothy leaves Arthur and, learning that David and Helen have married, threatens to blackmail the young husband. Helen, however, overhears Dorothy's threats and soon forgives him.
