Synopsis

Persis Cabot, a society girl brought up in the lap of luxury, does not wish to give up her luxurious life style, even though she passionately loves poor Army captain Harvey Forbes. Her millionaire father, on the verge of financial ruin, encourages her to marry Willie Enslee, whom she does not really love but who is extremely wealthy and can keep her in the manner to which she has grown accustomed. Soon after Persis and Enslee marry, Enslee becomes bored and takes up with his former mistress. Eventually Persis realizes her mistake and agrees to marry Harvey as soon as she can obtain a divorce from Willie. Enslee discovers their subterfuge, and in a jealous rage fights Harvey and stabs Persis with a letter opener. Persis recovers from her wound but gossip newspapers create a scandal. Persis finally obtains her divorce and is free to marry Harvey.
