Synopsis

Hagar, a gypsy living in the United States, deserts her husband Pharos and daughter Zorah for Bruce Griswold, who in turn, abandons her. She commits suicide, while Griswold attains wealth and power. After Zorah has grown to womanhood, her gypsy band passes through Griswold's town, and he becomes fascinated with her and sends her to school. Zorah loves Henry Livingston, but because he is engaged to someone else, she finally consents to marry Griswold. When Pharos tells Zorah the truth about Griswold and Hagar, she decides to take poison, but Griswold finds the potion and, in a drunken stupor, drinks it and dies. Zorah is tried for Griswold's murder, but with the help of Livingston, is eventually acquitted. Livingston's fiancée, horrified that he would represent a gypsy, breaks the engagement, leaving him free to marry Zorah.
