Synopsis

Topsy, a little black imp, is offered for sale by Simon Legree at an auction on the Shelby estate. When no one bids, Eva St. Claire gets her for a nickel; Topsy, Uncle Tom and other slaves are then turned over to Aunt Ophelia for correction and cleaning. When St. Claire is unable to pay his debt to Legree, the latter reclaims his property, but Topsy escapes while Legree and Shelby engage in a furious battle. Struggling against great drifts of snow, she finds a pair of skis and later a horse equipped with snowshoes; she reaches the river before Legree and his dogs and finds a graveyard where runaway slaves have sought refuge. Later, learning that Eva is gravely ill, Topsy prays for her recovery. Eva revives, and the two friends are happily reunited.
