Synopsis

Yasuhiko Kuroki is determined to make his fortune by any means possible, including the use of women and treachery. Yoshie, his former college mistress and socialist colleague, helps him acquire a job with a large publishing company owned by Eto. To win Eto's favor Kuroki informs him of the plans of his socialist friends for a union strike; as a result the union is broken, and the strike fails. To accelerate his rise to the top Kuroki seduces Ayako, Eto's daughter, and she becomes pregnant. The two are married, but Kuroki resumes his relationship with Yoshie, who is now married to the union leader. When Yoshie's husband discovers them together, Yoshie betrays Kuroki and informs the union about his part in the abortive strike. Kuroki returns to his apartment one night and is stabbed to death by one of the outraged union leaders.
