Synopsis
After attending college in the United States, an independent young woman named Maria returns to her father's home in the Phillipines. Maria's father is a unfeeling landowner, who physically abuses the peasants who work on his property, and works them mercilessly. Defying her father, Maria befriends the workers, teaches their children, and eventually falls in love with one of them, a man named Tony. In fact, Tony is an undercover law officer who leads the mistreated workers in a rebellion, and Maria is forced to choose between her father and her lover.
