Synopsis

Nancy Sherwood finds her life rather dreary on the southern plantation where she lives with three old maid Aunts, until her cousin Lola Ainsley drops in from New York. Lola, who is married to Jonathan Ainsley, is deeply in love with David Montgomery. To conceal her affair, Lola conceives the plan of marrying her cousin to David. The ceremony takes place and Nancy, finding her husband distant, takes consolation in his ward Jimsy Blake. Gradually David comes to love his wife, instilling jealousy in Lola who informs Nancy that David married her solely for convenience. Nancy, shattered, is about to leave when she sees Jonathan approaching the house to shoot David. Throwing herself in front of the bullet intended for her husband, Nancy is shot, and David, remorseful, admits his love for his wife.
