Synopsis

Isadore Solomon, a Jew, is driven from the small New England town of Valley Falls by the mayor and some leading citizens when he arrives to open a general store. Clem Beemis, a handyman at the hotel, befriends Solomon and Mary Clark, another newcomer to Valley Falls, and persuades them to invest in an electric light plant which would provide illumination for the whole town. Banker's son Ned Tyler, who falls in love with Mary, gets a bank's assistance for the project while the mayor and his henchmen attempt to thwart it. Eventually the power plant is erected, and the townspeople honor Clem, Solomon, and Mary at a great celebration.
