Synopsis

His callous disregard for others costs shipping magnate Daniel Gaynor his sweetheart, Mary Alden. Then, continuing his thoughtlessness, he refuses to give a raise to Richard Grant, who needs the money to care for his sick grandmother. Desperate, Richard steals company funds and tells his wife Bessie, who is Mary's daughter, that he did indeed get the raise. When evidence mounts against Richard, Daniel decides to confront him. At Richard's house, he meets Bessie, who thanks him profusely for the raise and then says that, because of his kindness, she and Richard have decided to name their child after him. Daniel suddenly realizes that he had lost the capacity to care for other people, so he calls off the investigation of Richard and then goes back to Mary, determined to start over.
