Synopsis

Dan La Roche lives in a mountain cabin, his only friend, a trapper, Tom Tripp. When Dan receives word from his city cousin, Henry Crozier, that they are heirs to their uncle's estate, Dan visits Crozier, whereupon both are startled by their resemblance to each other. After Crozier convinces Dan to sign over mining property in exchange for timber lands, Dan returns. He meets Ruth Madison, visiting from the city, and falls in love. Meanwhile, Crozier, who has mismanaged the mining property, sells Dan his portion of the timber lands, which he has secretly mortgaged. Ruth, returning to the city, meets Crozier and, thinking he is Dan, marries him. After he treats her cruelly, Crozier leaves to avoid being caught for a stock swindle. Ruth then returns to the mountains hoping to find him changed by the environment. After she spends a night with Dan, he is arrested for Crozier's crime. When Dan escapes from jail, Crozier shoots him in the back. After Tripp kills Crozier, Dan and Ruth marry.
