Synopsis
The dissolute Count Pierre Tornai, having dissipated his fortune in Paris, embezzles embassy funds while intoxicated; and after spending his last penny on a dancer, he contemplates suicide but is persuaded to enlist in the Foreign Legion. Reestablished through long and faithful service, Pierre meets Vera, a rich American girl who is touring Africa under the care of Captain Herault, a faithless friend of Pierre's. Herault involves Pierre in a military affair from which he can extricate himself only by blaming Scadsza, a native girl who loves him, hoping thereby to retain Vera's affections. Desert tribesmen attack the outpost, and Herault is forced to released Pierre; amid the raging battle, Pierre and Vera confess their love. Scadsza admits to being the daughter of Ben Achmed, leader of the Bedouins, and in return for his daughter, Ben Achmed agrees to end the slaughter.
