Synopsis
Society matron Clarissa Sedgwick, grateful to the Maxon family for nursing her after a shipwreck near their fishing village, invites young Meta to visit her back East. Meta accepts and falls prey to Clarissa's worldly nephew Morton. Returning home in disgrace, Meta meets her former sweetheart Albert Tuley who has just returned from Paris a successful sculptor. Albert proposes marriage, but before accepting, Meta sends a letter of confession to him. Unknown to the girl, her mother intercepts the letter and when Albert makes no response, the two are married. On the night after the ceremony, Meta informs Albert of her past and he leaves her. Receiving a false report of Albert's death and urged on by her mother, Meta agrees to marry Morton. They drift down to Mexico City where Meta discovers that Albert is alive. During a fight between the two men, Morton falls to his death and Albert finally forgives his wife.
