Synopsis

In the 1880's, Texas Ranger Steve Forsythe, alias The Durango Kid, is assigned to track down outlaw Sam Barton, who has stolen $20,000 dollars worth of gold pieces. At Spring Rock, Texas, Barton is caught and murdered by gang leader and hotel keeper Ace Conley and his henchman Reno. Conley then forces blacksmith Smiley Burnette to melt the gold pieces down into bullion which Conley hides in a mine. Knowing that old-time prospector Pop Willard does not wish his daughter Betsy to learn that he served time in prison, Conley blackmails Pop into pretending to discover the gold in the mine. Soon after, Steve arrives into Spring Rock to investigate and believes he recognizes Pop. Betsy's fiancé, Sheriff Tom Chapman, knows of Pop's past and his attempts to go straight and informs Steve. Later, after Smiley informs Steve about the gold, the Durango Kid visits the mine and puts a stop to the melting process, then shares the evidence with Tom. With the young sheriff's help, the Durango Kid rounds up Conley and Reno, who are arrested. Steve departs with the recovered gold while Pop's secret remains safe.
