Synopsis
After receiving her degree in civil engineering, Peggy Conrow returns to her father's estate near the village of Oldtown, which has fallen into a state of disrepair. Her father, who has offered to supervise and finance local improvements, is called away, and Peggy resolves to take up his work. Opposed by stingy taxpayers, she proposes to establish a new town on her own land but meets with opposition from Dr. Ransome, who conceives her to be a headstrong upstart. She kidnaps the doctor, and when busybody Silas Tucker sees David kissing her in her studio there is a scandal. Peggy clears her honor, however, by stating that she is party to an elopement; and when her father's plans are adopted by the town council, she decides actually to marry David.
