Synopsis

The film is based on the J. Hartley Manners play about Peg, a poor Irish farmer's daughter who goes to England to stay with an aristocratic family and falls in love with a young nobleman. Manners contended that Famous Players-Lasky introduced new features into the scenario, including Irish propaganda and elements of William Shakespeare's play Antony and Cleopatra . Notes

The film was apparently produced in the summer of 1919, but a legal dispute between J. Hartley Manners and theatrical producer Oliver Morosco resulted in the Supreme Court forbidding Famous Players-Lasky Corp. from exhibiting the film. Manners supervised another screen version of the play at Metro in 1922, starring Laurette Taylor and directed by King Vidor. (See AFI Catalog of Feature Films, 1921-30; F2.4193). Marion Davies starred in an M-G-M-Cosmopolitan version in 1933, directed by Robert Z. Leonard.
