Synopsis

Apache Basin is in the throes of a bitter range war involving cattlemen, sheepmen and homesteaders when cowboy Bob Burke rides into the valley and stops at the deserted cabin of Steve Reynolds. There, Bob is ordered to leave by Luke Halsey and his brother Hank, ringleaders of the lawless forces that pervade the basin. Bob overhears the brothers planning to ride to the Martin ranch, where Jim Martin heads the opposition to the Halseys' ruthless band. At the ranch, the brothers threaten to harm Jim's kidnapped son Tom unless the old man signs his land over to them. As Luke pulls a gun on Jim, Bob rides to his rescue and orders the Halseys off the Martin ranch. Jim, who has sent for Bob, tells the cowboy that he fears that harm has come to Steve Reynolds, who has been missing since he rode for the sheriff. Bob decides to ride for the forces of law and order himself, and finds the wounded Reynolds at his cabin. There, Reynolds tells Bob about the Robin Hood-like outlaw Poe Powers, the leader of a band known as the Riders of the Sage. Later, Bob meets Poe on the road to the Martin ranch, and Poe, who is in love with the Halseys' rebellious sister Mona, agrees to join Bob in his quest for justice and tells him that Tom is being held prisoner at the Halsey ranch. Bob rides to the ranch to rescue Tom and overhears Luke planning the demise of Poe and the Martins. After taking Bob prisoner, the brothers leave, and Mona rides to warn Poe while Bob and Tom struggle free from their bonds. Bob sends Tom for the sheriff while he and Poe hold off Halsey and his band at the Martin ranch. When the sheriff arrives to arrest Halsey and his gang, law and order is restored to Apache Basin, and Mona, free of her brothers, joins Poe and his Riders of the Sage.
