Synopsis

Sally Castleton lives in a Kentucky mountain cabin with her kindly grandfather and cruel aunt. John Derr, a much-hated villain who cheats the villagers at his tollgates, plans to win Sally, even though she is in love with his cousin, Milt Derr. After a band of night riders, of which Milt is a member, destroys the tollgates, Jed, one of John's henchmen who is known as "The Killer," accuses Milt of murdering two men during the struggle. John extorts a promise of marriage from Sally by threatening to expose Milt as a murderer, and when Milt reads of their engagement, he rushes back to Sally, who explains everything. Sally follows her outraged sweetheart to John's cabin, but "The Killer," angry that he never received payment for his work, has already murdered John. Sally assumes the blame and is about to be hanged when Milt brings "The Killer" to the jailhouse to confess.
