Synopsis

Basil Payson, a heavy loser at a fashionable gambling club owned by Michael Donovan, confronts Donovan with evidence of cheating and finds himself accused, on circumstantial evidence, of the owner's murder. As Payson is about to be found guilty by the jury, a dissenting juror, Thomas Gordon, admits to being guilty of the crime and in a flashback reveals his story: Following a church service, in which the minister condemns a nearby town for its evil conditions, Gordon is coaxed by his daughters into visiting the town. Al and Donovan have the family drugged in a cafe and carry off the unconscious girls. Mrs. Gordon, with the aid of the minister, finds the villains and the abducted girls. Gordon, learning of the story, goes to Donovan's home and kills him. The jury, however, convinced he has rid them of a public menace, free Payson and pledge not to reveal Gordon's story.
