Synopsis
Although Betty lives in a luxurious home, owns the costliest of toys, and has an army of servants on hand, because her overly protective maiden aunt forbids her to play with the children in the tenements, who are the only children nearby, Betty sits at home and mopes. After her sympathetic young uncle jokingly tells her to run away, Betty goes to the beach, but the little girls will not play with a stranger, and the boys, who are swimming, want nothing to do with a girl. Betty dons a discarded swimmer's clothes and has fun dressed as a boy, while the unfortunate owner of the clothes has to wear Betty's frilly things. After Betty's aunt calls the police, the boy is picked up. Betty enters to dispel the confusion, and becomes friends with the boy. Later, after Betty's father allows her to play with other children, she invites tenement children to a party. The boy's father, having lost his job, attempts to burglarize Betty's house and is caught, but when Betty's father learns that the man's son and Betty are friends, he helps the man instead of punishing him.
