Synopsis

On her way to Paris, Lucette Grenier, owner of a smart Fifth Avenue millinery shop, meets and falls in love with Robert Van Austen; they become engaged, but Robert, because of his former affair with Doris Charming, and knowing that his mother does not approve of working girls, persuades her to keep her occupation a secret. At a dinner given by Mrs. Van Austen, Lucette is recognized by Mrs. Stevenson, one of her customers, and consequently she is snubbed by Mrs. Van Austen, although John, Robert's uncle, is charmed by her. When Doris visits her shop and charges expensive articles to Robert, Lucette decides to break the engagement; John Van Austen then pleads his own suit and is accepted.
