Synopsis

During an 18-hour stopover at the end of the Los Angeles-Honolulu run, the crew of a 747 pursue their separate activities: Bachelor pilot Brad Masters takes Tina, a new stewardess, home to make another in a long line of conquests. Tina gives in and later feels victimized, but Brad, suddenly compassionate, restores her sense of decency. Passenger Colin Winthrop, an advertising executive, picks up the beautiful, ambitious Samantha, who hopes to entice him into signing her as "the beautiful mouth" for his new publicity campaign. The jaded young businessman confesses that although his success began with a homosexual affair with the president of the company, he would like to divest himself of his corrupt life. Samantha nonetheless tries to secure the promotional job, and Colin forces her to pay for her ambition by submitting to his abuse. Stewardess Wendy picks up a soldier on leave from Viet Nam, while most of the remainder of the flight crew go to a nightclub restricted to airline personnel. Karen leaves for home and an LSD trip while Horney Annie goes off with a pilot. During the celebration, Annie slips out with Cappy, a pilot friend of Brad, and when her date discovers her indiscretion, he brutally beats Cappy. Jo Peters, the head stewardess and a lesbian, manages to lure an unsuspecting woman home with her. Cappy calls Brad, who is consoling Tina, and asks his friend to take the upcoming flight. When Samantha awakes, the memory of the night's horror provokes her to take revenge on Colin by beating him to death with a heavy statuette, after which she leaps off his 28th-floor balcony. The men and women re-convene at the airport for the flight.

Notes

Screen process credited as "3 Dimensional Stereo-Vision as developed by Magnavision." After initial release, some 70mm prints were prepared. Originally a string of six hard-core shorts, The Stewardesses assumed a more cohesive story line when additional footage was filmed and inserted. During the re-shooting, 56 women were used to enact the roles of the several characters in the film. Also reviewed as Airline Stewardess. Filmed in California.
