Synopsis

Although her husband is well-to-do, Helen Porter is forced into embarrassing situations for lack of ready cash. When she accompanies Mrs. Crest to a gambling hall operated behind the facade of a gown shop, she is forced to borrow money and then to pawn her jewels to Milton Howard in order to pay the debt. At the instigation of Howard, Helen steals a valuable Indian ring at a reception, and when she comes to pawn it he forces a rendezvous with her. Meanwhile, Judge Harrington, who has learned of her troubles, induces Porter to give his wife a check for $5,000. Porter, suspicious, follows her to the meeting with Howard and is about to shoot him when Howard reveals his views on the false values of the society set. Husband and wife reach a mutually happy understanding.
