Synopsis

Anna, a shopgirl, marries wealthy salesman John Stevens, and fully enjoys the role of wife and then mother. John, however, believes in the double standard, so while he expects Anna to remain faithful, he sees nothing wrong in his own philandering. Then, finally fed up with John, Anna decides to adopt his philosophy. As a result, she leaves Nannie, her sickly child, with her stepmother, and goes to one of Lena Schmidt's wild parties. There one of Lena's friends tries to seduce Anna, but Doctor Goode saves her and takes her home. Meanwhile, John has also returned from a night out, and is frantic over Nannie's condition. Doctor Goode heals Nannie, however, and then mends John and Lena's marriage, as he convinces John to accept the responsibilities that go with being a husband and a father.
