Synopsis

Baron Chevrial, an aging roué, has had a long-standing romance with Rosa, a dancer, but in the interests of respectability, he decides to marry Therese Beauchamp, the young daughter of a businessman. Although she is in love with Henri de Targy, Rosa obeys her father's wishes and marries the baron, while Henri, still heartbroken, marries the frivolous Marcelle. Having a wife does nothing to end Chevrial's dalliance with Rosa, nor does it prevent him from trying to seduce Marcelle, who, after resisting the baron's advances, runs away with an opera singer. When the singer leaves her, Marcelle commits suicide, and soon thereafter, the baron dies at Rosa's birthday party. Then, finally free from spouses they never loved, Henri and Therese make plans for their marriage.
