Synopsis

Singing waiter Jimmy Evarts and dancer Mary Dolan, who both work in a Lower East Side cabaret owned by Riley, are in love. Riley is controlled by Tim McCardle, Boss of the Bowery. Theatrical producer Mark Kelsey visits the cabaret, and his wallet is stolen by McCardle. In turn, Jimmy steals the wallet from McCardle and uses the money to dress up Mary. She tries out for a Broadway show and fails; Jimmy is arrested and sent to jail; and Kelsey offers Mary a job in a show. She becomes a star; and when Jimmy is released, Kelsey reunites the two lovers. Jimmy finds Mary scantily clad in the apartment of one of the show's backers, Phillip Andrews, and jumps to conclusions. Repenting, Jimmy returns to find Mary wed to Kelsey. Heartbroken, he leaves her to the producer.
