Synopsis

Guerd Larey holds up a stagecoach and takes the money with which Ruth Hunt had hoped to leave the town of Lost Lake forever; as a result, she is forced to take a dancing job in Boss Stone's dancehall. Guerd derides Sheriff Collishaw and Stone's attempts to capture the bandit. Boss Stone tries to win Ruth's love, and in order to escape, she steals Guerd's wallet. Though he catches her, he is sympathetic upon discovering that it was she whose money he stole. He becomes a boarder at her cabin and begins to fall in love with her. Meanwhile, the sheriff suspects Adam Wansfell, a stranger from the East, but Guerd saves him by claiming he is his nephew. Ruth falls in love with the young stranger, and they plan to elope, but Guerd, wounded in a robbery attempt, returns to the cabin. Adam claims he is the bandit, hoping to save Guerd. Guerd, however, realizing his loyalty, leaves proof of his own guilt, and Ruth frees Adam in time to prevent his hanging.
