Synopsis

Engine trouble compels a yacht filled with New York society idlers to make port at a New England coastal village, and there Reggie Van Zandt and his fiancée, Patricia Vane, meet John Alden and his sister, Betty. Eager for diversion, Patricia accepts John as her escort during the next 4 days, and Reggie displays an equal interest in Betty. Patricia accepts John's invitation to attend church services, and afterward she becomes remorseful, confessing that she is engaged to Reggie. Heartbroken, John prepares to go to sea, but learning that his sister has been taken aboard the yacht by Reggie, he attacks the society loungers (complacently engaged in "African golf"), knocks down Reggie, and denounces the entire party. Reggie and Patricia are awakened to their error, the former realizing his love for Betty and Patricia her genuine affection for John.
