Synopsis

Carla, a society debutante, motoring to her country estate, strikes a careless pedestrian and insists on taking the young man to her home to receive medical attention; he tells her his name is David and that he is a struggling artist down on his luck though he is actually the disinherited son of a steel magnate, rejected because of his art career. A mutual attraction develops; he tries to prolong his stay, and she agrees to let him paint a picture of her dog. Carla's intimate friends Hedda and Eric Frane, recently divorced, are invited to a house party, and Hedda determines to win David. Eric openly woos Carla, and playing on her weakness for gambling, he plans to win her in a fixed roulette game; David, torn with jealousy, denounces Carla as a heartless flirt, and she is deeply hurt. David and Carla are reconciled, then separated by a false accusation; Hedda's plan to lure him away ultimately fails, and he is reunited with the girl.
