Synopsis

Englishman Tom Lingard, owner of the trading brig Lightning , works the waters of the Java Sea. Hassim, rajah of Wajo, rescues Lingard from the natives of his village and consequently is driven from his throne. Consequently, he and his sister Immada take refuge with Lingard, who determines to restore the rajah to power. Just as preparations are nearing completion, the yacht of Travers, a wealthy Englishman, goes aground nearby. Though Travers resents Lingard's attempts to help, his wife is drawn to the adventurer. Lingard effects the release of Travers and D'Alacer from Daman's men, but the natives revolt and seize Travers' ship; Mrs. Travers goes to summon Lingard, but in their mutual passion, all is forgotten. The ship is dynamited, killing all, and Lingard remorsefully sends the girl away.
