Synopsis

Although she has the chance to settle down with John Bancroft, the town minister, Naomi Sterling begins a romance with gambler Hugh Wiley, and then goes with him to the city to help him run a casino. John goes to the city, too, to head an anti-vice organization. After several years Naomi gains control of all the gambling operations in the city, and then hears that John's fight against corruption has made him rich. She decides to ruin John, and so invites him to her home while several of her cronies crack his safe. She soon learns, however, that the money is not really John's, but that he simply has been holding it for other people. As a result, she replaces the now-spent stolen money with enough of her own to maintain John's good name. Then, realizing how she has ruined her life, Naomi asks John for help, and he gladly provides her with love and protection.
