Synopsis

Attracted by Mary Fanjoy's rustic beauty, Cecil Grey marries her, and after the honeymoon, informs her that she must display herself on Broadway to attract customers to his gambling tables. When she refuses, Cecil threatens to tell her father, florist Daniel Fanjoy, whom she deeply loves, that their marriage was not legal. Discouraged, Mary works for her husband until his establishment is raided by the police. In the fracas, Jeanette Wayne, who loved Cecil, is killed, whereupon he and his confederate, London Louie, force Mary to masquerade as Jeanette in order to secure her blind and elderly mother's money. While visiting the home of Mrs. Wayne, to whom she becomes greatly attached, Mary meets and falls in love with Tom Burton, who had lost everything to Cecil. London Louie and Cecil are killed in an attempted bank robbery, but just before his death, Cecil confesses that he actually was Mary's legal husband, leaving her free to marry Tom.

Notes

Motion Picture News lists Claire Anderson rather than Dorothy Hagar in the role of Jeanette Wayne. Regarding another film, a reviewer remarked that the Cinema Exchange scenarios were probably the work of one person.
