Synopsis
While on the trail to the town of Long Tree, Doc Henderson's medicine show wagon is robbed for the sixth time by the Morrell gang, prompting Carolyn, one of the performers, to strap on a pair of six-shooters in defiance. Also on the road to Long Tree is rancher Curt Mason and his cowhands, Big Boy Jackson and Biscuits, who are driving a herd of cattle to market. When Curt and his boys meet the medicine show troupe, which consists of Carolyn, her brothers, the Hoosier Hot Shots, Taffy and the owner, Doc Henderson, the wagon gets stuck in a watering hole. Curt, furious that the vehicle is contaminating the water, orders the troupe to clean up the hole, thus earning Carolyn's enmity. After arriving in town, Curt sells his cattle and deposits the check at the local bank, while the medicine troupe sets up its show. As the town dances to the tunes of the Hoosier Hot Shots, the Morrell gang robs the bank, knocks Curt unconscious and steals his payroll. Finding Curt outside the bank, the sheriff assumes that he is one of the outlaws and arrests him for robbery. When an angry mob calls for a lynching, Big Boy and Biscuits stampede the cattle into the street and in the chaos rescue Curt. Outside of town, the three hear the sound of gunfire and observe the Morrell gang chasing the medicine wagon. Curt and the boys gallop up just as the gang rides off with the cash box. When Carolyn tells Curt that this is the seventh time that the gang has robbed them, Curt, suspecting that someone associated with the medicine show is in league with the outlaws, offers to accompany the wagon to their next stop at Nueva Vista, New Mexico. Upon arriving there, the group finds that the sheriff is checking the credentials of all those entering. To avoid the law, Curt, Big Boy and Biscuits gallop across the border to Mexico. Meanwhile, Henderson, the covert leader of the outlaws, stashes the stolen lucre in the Hot Shots's guitar case, and when the sheriff discovers the money, he arrests the Hot Shots as the Morrell gang. Carolyn crosses the border to ask Curt for help, while Ken, one of the Hot Shots, confers with Sheriff Romiro, the law officer in charge of the Mexican side of town and an old friend of his father. Together they plan a trap for the outlaws. After deputizing Curt, Romiro asks Zeke Davis, the town banker, to dismiss his guards, thus allowing the outlaws access to the bank. Curt, Big Boy and Biscuits then break the Hot Shots out of jail and send them across the Mexican border to safety. Suspecting that Henderson is involved in the robberies, Curt informs him that the bank guards have been dismissed. As predicted, when the Hot Shots take the stage to perform, the gang, led by Henderson's confederate Luttrell, breaks into the bank and is confronted by the sheriff, Big Boy and Curt. After overpowering Luttrell, Curt forces him to confess that Henderson is the leader of the Morrell gang. Curt then hands Luttrell a bundle of cash and orders him to deliver it to Henderson, and when Luttrell hands the money over to Henderson, the sheriff arrests him for robbery.
