Synopsis
Socialite Alice Eliott mistakes Richard Shelby, a traveling salesman of sporting goods and inventor of a new type of golf suit, for millionaire Timothy Stanfield. Having fallen in love with her, Shelby, afraid to disabuse Alice of the notion that he is wealthy, allows himself to be installed in an expensive California hotel. Following a "get-rich-quick" inspiration, Shelby induces Jordan, head of a department store and a keen golfer, to wear his golf suit made of "elasto-tweed" on the golf course, in hopes that Jordan will buy a great quantity of them. It begins to rain, causing the suit to stretch to the ground. Jordan cancels his order, leaving Shelby with an exorbitant hotel bill. Shelby is caught trying to sneak out of the hotel wearing one of Stanfield's suits. Simultaneously, Jordan returns and doubles his order for the golf suits, having heard that they are the rage in the East; and Stanfield, owner of the company that makes the suits, promotes Shelby to sales manager, thus providing Shelby with enough money to marry Alice Eliott.
