Synopsis

Dolores Fargis quarrels with her lover, a wealthy German named Rudolph Von Zorn, and finally leaves his home to begin a new life in the country. There she meets and falls in love with Hugh Maxwell, a young physician who, uninformed of her past, marries her. The couple moves to New York, but Hugh is unsuccessful, and in desperation, Dolores visits a gambling house owned by Von Zorn. She wins heavily, but when the German approaches her and suggests that they renew their affair, she angrily rejects him, and he tells Hugh everything. Shocked, Hugh leaves his wife and joins the Canadian army, while Dolores sails to France as a Red Cross nurse. When she meets her wounded husband in an occupied hospital, Dolores agrees to convey an important document across the Allied lines, but she is caught and condemned to die. Standing before the firing squad, Dolores is given a note from the commanding German officer, Von Zorn, who offers her freedom in exchange for her affections. Scornfully, she tears up the note and is shot.
