Synopsis

The quiet life style of Ruth Heck and her brother Lem, who belong to a religious sect called the Seekers, is disrupted when a judge imprisons Lem for a crime he did not commit. Ruth then goes to work for the Reverend Israel Mount and soon falls in love with his son John, the town sheriff. Lem escapes and finds Ruth, and when she helps him avoid the authorities, John ends their romance because of her disrespect for the law. Then, the Seekers decide to send a young couple out to spread their gospel. The elders choose John to go, and Reverend Mount, hoping to effect a reconciliation, makes sure that they also select Ruth. The reverend's plan works, as Ruth and John decide to get married just as Lem receives official word that he has been cleared of all guilt.
