Synopsis

Alice Schuyler, who suffers from the dullness and discipline of convent life, is expelled for breaking a regulation and sent to her grandparents, while her mother embarks on a second honeymoon. There she is kept under equally unpleasant conditions, and desperate to free herself, she runs away with lodge-keeper John Carmen to the city and agrees to marry him. As Mrs. John Carmen, Alice becomes a society sensation; and Carmen, who loves her, disapproves of her uninhibited social life but does not intervene. Alice accepts the attentions of young Harrison Thornby, but when John discovers her at a dance with him, he orders her home. In defiance, Alice leaves in Thornby's car, which is wrecked; and while unconscious, Alice dreams that she has been abducted by Thornby aboard his yacht and that there is a collision with a steamer. Awakening, she is remorseful and returns to her grandmother; but John follows, declaring that his feeling are unchanged, and they agree to begin again.
