Synopsis

Superstitious Frances Wadsworth runs her life according to cards, signs, and dream books. Seeing that Venus is ascendant, she encourages her friend Florence Wellington to elope. After the cards predict that a blonde-haired man will attract her, Frances meets blonde Malcolm Dale at Florence's wedding, and although she makes him wait until the stars are right before they kiss, they fall in love. Unfortunately Frances' cards predict that a blonde woman will enter Malcolm's life. When Malcolm has to escort a blonde overweight millionaire's daughter, Frances is irritated until her cards predict that a dark man will be attracted to her. A brunette fortune hunter appears, and she accepts his marriage proposal, but she breaks their engagement when a black cat crosses their path. After she goes to spend a night alone in Florence's apartment, Malcolm comes, and both of them are knocked out by burglars. When they revive, they decide to marry. Frances postpones the wedding night, however, because of rain.

Notes

After the film was released with the title Nobody Home, the title was soon changed to Out of Luck, to accomodate Guy Bolton who wrote to the producers that his play entitled Nobody Home had been produced not long before.
