Synopsis

Ramona, a half-breed, is adopted by Señora Moreno, a wealthy Spanish sheep rancher, and reared under cruel restraints. Her only consolation is Felipe, the woman's son. At sheep-shearing time, Ramona discovers her ancestry and defies her guardian by eloping with Alessandro, a young Indian chieftain. Their pastoral happiness is marred by the death of their daughter after an outlaw attack; they retreat to the mountains, where Alessandro, accused of horse thievery, is murdered by a settler. Ramona suffers a nervous collapse and becomes a wandering outcast; Felipe finds her and tries to restore her memory. His efforts are fruitless until a childhood song reminds Ramona of her youthful abandon and returns her to the present.
