Synopsis

When Ruth Harkness inherits the Flying W ranch, she goes West with her aunt, uncle and William Masten, her fiancé, to claim it. While attempting to cross a shallow river, the group is aided and befriended by Rex Randerson, a carefree cowboy whose efforts are rewarded later with a job as the boss of the Flying W. Although Masten takes advantage of and seduces the neighbor's daughter, he resents the growing love between Ruth and Rex and plots with two Flying W cowhands, who are jealous of Rex's new position, to have the cowboy killed. Lured into a fight with the two roughnecks, Rex battles his way out at gunpoint and, riding at top speed, saves Rita from assault. As soon as Rex escapes from this situation, however, the offended girl's father accuses him of Masten's misdeed and threatens to kill him. After a desperate horse ride, the girl arrives in time to expose Masten and exonerate Rex. His bravery and innocence proven, Rex marries Ruth.
