Synopsis

Bobby Robertson, a popular jockey known familiarly as "The Rainmaker" because of his seeming ability to call forth rain by prayer, collects from both "mud horse" promoters and those who want clear weather; actually, a war wound tells him when his prayers are likely to be efficacious. Thrown in a race, Bobby comes under the ministrations of nurse Nell Wendell, formerly a honky-tonk girl, and falls in love with her. Mike, a bartender friend of Nell's, asks her to work in a new establishment he is opening; she rejects his offer, but when she is discharged, she returns to the old life. When Bobby leaves the hospital, he finds her in a border saloon. Through lack of rain and water, a plague breaks out in the town; and Doyle, a competitor of Mike's, prevents aid from coming. Bobby, in desperation, prays for rain, and the town is saved by a torrential downpour. Mike dies, however, leaving his money to Nell and Bobby, who marry and settle down on a farm.
