Synopsis

During the mid-nineteenth century, when The Cisco Kid and his gang hear that Indians and poor people are being robbed by tax collectors and land sharks in a town south of Monterey, California, he rides to their aid. Meanwhile, Carlos Mandreno, a young rancher, tells his sweetheart, Maria Morales, that he has paid his taxes and sold his cattle and now owns his ranch. Although the sale will enable them to get married, Maria tells Carlos that her brother Arturo, the chief of police, wants her to marry Bennet, the tax collector. Later, when Maria informs Arturo that she loathes Bennet for exploiting the poor, he reminds her that their house was a gift from Bennet and suggests that she not worry about the poor. Bennet, who has been foreclosing on property and selling it or giving it to his friends, prevents Carlos from interfering in his schemes by ordering Arturo to frame him for stealing cattle. Shortly after Cisco arrives in town, the money for the cattle that Carlos sold is stolen by a thief, who is known as "The Silver Bandit" because he rides on a silver saddle. When the posse sees Cisco, his silver-covered saddle causes them to suspect that he is The Silver Bandit. During the ensuing chase, Cisco is wounded and makes his way to Maria's house. She bandages his wound and hides him from her brother. Later, in the cantina, Cisco is flirting with Carmelita, the singer, when Maria arrives in search of Arturo, who is in love with Carmelita. Maria agrees to marry Bennet if Arturo will release Carlos. A short time later, a fight breaks out when Arturo slaps Carmelita, and Cisco comes to her defense. Carmelita inadvertently reveals Cisco's identity, and Arturo arrests him. Later, Cisco and Carlos escape from jail with the help of Carmelita, who steals the key to Cisco's cell from Arturo. Carlos discloses that Bennet has a hideout in the mountains, and the two men ride there in the morning. At the hideout, the men discover that Arturo is The Silver Bandit. From their hiding place, they see Bennet kill Arturo when he refuses to split the stolen money. Cisco then struggles with Bennet and kills him. Later, Cisco tells Maria that Arturo died while defending himself and killed Bennet, The Silver Bandit. He returns the stolen money and then bids the townspeople goodbye.
