Synopsis

John Steel, a mill worker and amateur boxer, gives up boxing at the request of his invalid mother and is called a coward by his fellow workers, who christen him "Scrap Iron." John is in love with Midge Flannigan, but she rejects him when he refuses to fight with professional Battling Burke, and John loses his job when he is late returning from lunch. In order to send his mother to Florida, John accepts the offer of promoter Bill Dugan to be the loser in a fight with Burke in exchange for $200; in the fourth round, however, John fights back, knocks out his opponent, and wins the match. Midge is repentant, but when his mother has a recurrent attack John promises to devote himself to restoring her health.
