Synopsis

When his parents become convinced that he has inherited criminal tendencies, Jimmy Wallingford leaves home with his adopted brother, "Toad." In a nearby town, Toad discovers signs of oil on the Curtis farm, where Mary, Jimmy's new girl friend, lives, but their investments come to nothing. Suddenly, J. Rufus arrives in town disguised as an East Indian, making great promises to the people. He and Blackie purchase some land, "strike" oil (pumped from tank cars), and sell oil stock to the populace; but Henry Beegoode denies having sold land to Wallingford, and the third copy of the bill of sale is stolen. During an oil fire that traps Jimmy and his friends, Wallingford admits that the well is a fake--a scheme to expose Beegoode. The bill of sale is regained from Beegoode, and Jimmy has an authentic strike.
