Synopsis

Mary Tilden, finding life unbearable in the desert as housewife to a railroad foreman, runs away from her husband and child. Twenty-five years later she is still washing dishes in the city, and worn and tired of her fruitless struggles she attempts suicide but is saved by David Tilden, a young writer, who takes her into his home to relieve his wife, Aline, from the drudgery of housework, enabling Aline to return to singing in a music store. Aline meets Henderson, an attractive young publisher; David visits Henderson's office, sees his wife's picture on the desk, and returns later with the intention of killing Henderson. Meanwhile, Mary discovers that David is her son but remains silent until she tries to take the blame for Henderson's murder and divulges the relationship. David tries to confess but is believed to be shielding his mother. Both are saved by the news that the shot was not fatal, and there is a happy reunion of husband, mother, and wife.
