Synopsis

Simon Pepper, a miserly recluse since the death of his young wife 30 years earlier, is attended by housekeeper Pansy Pooley and his secretary and valet, Abner Quigley. Pansy obtains Pepper's consent to employ her niece, Queenie, as her assistant. Queenie, who has done odd jobs at a girls' school, is disillusioned by her new life until her hat is retrieved by Vivian Van Winkle, son of a noodle king who has poetic aspirations under the name of Cocobola. Though forbidden to visit Pepper, she meets him and he takes a liking to her, but one evening he disappears. Quigley decides to impersonate Pepper, and he marries Pansy to launch a career. Queenie is about to marry Count Michael, but during the ceremony Pepper returns to expose the imposter, and Queenie is then happily married to Van Winkle.
